Kya Baat Medical Communication App (2021)

Kya Baat is an Urdu medical communication app I developed and released in 2021 at the age of thirteen. It’s intended for patients with conditions which limit their movement and verbal communication, allowing them to use large buttons on a mobile screen to communicate.

A controversial decision I made was to make the app completely ad-free, unlike others of its kind. However I wanted the user experience to be completely distraction free and use the entire phone’s screen, allowing the buttons to be larger and easier to interact with. After all, this is an app which is still actively used by over 300 people, and I do not intend to bring any inconvenience for a quick profit.

Kya Baat received a lot more fame soon after its release than I expected it to. Pakscience sent out a tweet about the app which led to a mention from the Ministry of Science and Technology, followed soon by over 5,000 downloads!

Perhaps my most unexpected accomplishment was giving an interview live on television on SAMAA TV’s Morning Show regarding the app!

I’ve received many comments on how people’s loved ones have greatly benefited from Kya Baat. One of my favourite ones was someone telling me that it helped multiple non-verbal children in a special needs school communicate easier. It’s stories like these which I find to be far more valuable than any amount of money I might have made by including advertisements in the app!

Five years later, I continue to keep the app up to date to work with the latest devices and Android updates, and I intend to do so for the coming future. I never expected this app to gain as much publicity or downloads as it did, however it allowed for more people who could benefit from its use to know of its existence, so I see it as a huge plus.

That concludes my journey with Kya Baat. Thanks for reading!
